Is echogenic good or bad in relation to an ultrasound scan?

Hello all, I have a very large complex cyst (15cm). On my inpatient discharge summary it says the ultrasound found an 'echogenic area' within measuring 10 x 5cn, some colour flow on periphery but nothing convincing within the solid part. No septations within and No ascites.

this is all Gobbledygook to me, can anyone help?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm afraid as nurses we don't interpret ultrasound scan reports as this is not our area of expertise. This needs to come from your GP or hospital specialist.

Most complex cysts are benign but they have to be checked out by ultrasound scan to be on the safe side. Hopefully, your doctor will be able to clarify your situation soon.

I hope everything turns out to be okay. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Celene
