CT Scan after Colonoscopy

Hello

last week I had a colonoscopy and they found extrinsic compression on the left side and have referred me for an urgent CT scan in 2 weeks time.  I wondered if anyone could tell me what they might be looking for as I don't really know what this means and googling extrinsic compression leads me down many alleyways that I don't understand. I have lower back pain and feel like I'm being squeezed in a hug when I lie down.

Thanks all x

  • Hello PinkEG and thanks for posting,

I can understand you asking, but I don't really know the answer to your question I'm afraid. I assume there could be a range of things that might be causing this compression so they could be looking for anything and it may not be related to cancer.

Waiting for tests can be an unnerving experience and it is always tempting to go online and look things up, but it can be a bit of a rabbit hole and tends to increase worry and/or keep it front of mind. Without the CT scan results I don't think you will be able to find out much more, so it might be best to wait it out for now.

If you want to talk anything over please do give us a call on Freephone 0808 800 4040. We are around weekdays, 9-5.

    Best wishes,
