Lump when laid flat

Hi,

I've recently found a lump that only appears whenever I'm laid flat. It's not solid and sometimes I can roll it between fingers and it is in my inner upper quadrant. I've been to the doctors and have been referred to the breast clinic for further investigation. However I am currently going out of my mind with worry, im barely eating and finding it difficult to sleep.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thank you x

    Hi Flossy,

A very warm welcome to our forum.  I am sorry to hear about your anxiety.  You have done the right thing by contacting your GP.  We all tend to become very scared whilst waiting to be seen. Fear of the unknown is very real. Fortunately, only 1 person in every 8 referred to the breast clinic will receive a cancer diagnosis. Try to steer clear of the Internet. This isn't very useful until you know exactly what you are dealing with. It will also scare the pants off of you and serve no useful purpose.

I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi,

thank you for taking the time to reply. I can't help but search the internet which I know isn't of any help.

    Hi Flossy,

If you must search, try to stick to the more respected sites like this one. There really isn't much point in googling until you know what you are dealing with. Many of the sites are poorly researched, out of date and aimed at the most spectacular cases.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi and thanks for the post

It's horrid waiting for tests and results as your mind does tend to go into overdrive. The majority of people though who attend a breast clinic do not have breast cancer.

Lumps are not always because of cancer - you can have cysts, benign lumps(called fibroadenomas) fatty lumps and lumps that come up due to hormonal changes.

It's going to be a case of just waiting to get examined and scanned as no one will be able to tell you what this may be without that being done.

Keep busy and there isn't any point really in looking on the internet as it can't give you a diagnosis and can only really raise your anxiety unnecessarily

    I hope all goes well

    All the best

    Wanda.

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your reply.

I have received an appointment for the 24th February, I am that scared I have contemplated cancelling the appointment . I'm hoping an praying that it is a cyst or fibroadena. The lump tends to increase in size with my mentstrual cycle.

  • Hi

so sorry to hear of your high anxiety, I'm in the same situation. Appointment is next week.

would love to know how you got on at the appointment?

    all the best

  • Hi,

So sorry to hear that you are in a similar situation. I went for my appointment and everything went well. The staff are lovely. I found out that I have numerous cyst. One is really big which fluctuates in size with my menstrual cycle. They also said that I have nodular/glandular breast tissue. I'm not quite sure what that means though.
The breast surgeon reassured me that they were benign and I'm currently waiting for an appointment to have the large cyst drained.

Is your lump only there when lied flat?

hope to hear from you soon

  • Hi,

    Thank you!!
My lump can be felt more when lied flat, its slightly raised sometimes it feel solid then other times it's soft and moveable. It also seems to go a lot smaller when I lift up my arm.

The surgeon said that the cyst was deep seated and that is the reason it can only be felt when I'm lied down. My breast aren't symmetrical the one with the cysts is slightly bigger and sometimes tender, I did tell the surgeon this and he said the cyst seems to be menstrual.

I was out of my mind with worry before my appointment so I know that you will be too, please let me know how you're appointment goes or feel free to send me a message if you would like to chat.

    Good Luck x
