Questions About Lletz

My biopsy's results came back, unfortunately, confirming the smear results as CIN3 I have to go for Lletz I am terrified.  The letter says they offer me to use  Entonox what is this how it is help? I am also scared because I am wondering how she would remove the abnormal cells while at the colposcopy she couldn't see them. When She applied the solutions hadn't see any changes and she took a biopsy. How she could know which area is abnormal to remove those cells this time? If the cells were deeper and she couldn't see them how she would remove them?

  • Hello Sandy and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn that need to have treatment for CIN3 and can appreciatte that, like any unknown, this can feel a bit daunting.

Entonox is a well established fast acting pain relieving gas mixture that you can have if you need it, the idea is that you can decide for yourself when you need to breath it in. But I expect they will use a local anaesthetic to numb the cervix as well which is given with an injection. So you may not need the Entonox.

A LLETZ (Large Loop Excision of the Transformation Zone) removes the area of the cervix where abnormal cells usually are, so this should include the area of CIN3 found on the biopsy, but do ask more about this on the day - it is natural to have questions and I am sure they will be happy to answer any you have.

Six months after treatment you will have a screening test (smear) to check that everything is ok.

If you want to read up on having a LLETZ (it might help to understand the procedure), you can look at our website or the website of another charity, Jo's Trust, at the links below,
