Dark patch on vulva

Hi..I was referred to dermatology dept over 3 months ago with a patch of dark skin on my vulva. They weren't concerned about it ...took some pictures and told me that they'd like to see me again in 3 months. I went back over 2 weeks ago and the doctor said he'd like me to have a biopsy now... he said the referral should be within 2 weeks...but I heard nothing so rang up.They told me I would get an appointment  within a further 4 to 6 weeks as they have a big backlog presently... should I be worried? Or does the longer waiting time mean it's not really a priority...?

There is currently a big catch up going on throughout the UK so unfortunately there will be some delays going on. It's not unusual to have a watch and wait policy on some conditions and if things stay the same, the next step is often a biopsy so that the area can be examined in more detail.

No one can say though whether this is something to be worried about or not at the moment- it's good that a biopsy will be done so the doctors can get some more information .Until then, though understandably it's horrid, it's a case of just waiting for the appointment. You can also  always ring to ask to be put on a list if there is a cancellation.

    I hope all goes well

    All the best
