Doctors told us my uncle may have lung cancer

My uncle has recently been in hospital twice over the last month due to chest infections and low sodium. He has been discharged from the hospital today, however we received a call to say he either has severe pneumonia or lung cancer, due to them finding fluid on his lungs from a ct scan. He is booked in on the 15th February for a biopsy. I'm really worried that he may have lung cancer and being sent home and having to wait for the biopsy will just allow his possible cancer to get worse. He is my world and like a dad figure to me. I can't discuss my concerns with my family and make them more worried. I've done so much research and I don't know what to do or think.

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear your uncle is unwell and undergoing some tests to find out what the matter might be.

Times like this can be extremely worrying but I'm afraid the internet cannot tell you what is going on and only the biopsy can confirm if your uncle has lung cancer or not.

Waiting and not knowing is also unsettling and having to wait a few days or a couple of weeks for tests and results is normal in these circumstances, and this shouldn't change the overall outcome.

Try not to over think until you have all the facts from the doctors. Try and steer clear of google for now as well as this is likely to cause you more worry especially if you are reading things that may not have anything to do with your uncle's situation.

Hopefully you will know more very soon and then a plan can be actioned as to what needs to happen next.

I hope your uncle will be okay. Do get back if you need to or you are welcome to call the nurses on 0808 800 4040, we're here Mon-Fri 9-5.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Hi Naomi,

Thank you so much for your reply. I completely understand it just the waiting game. I will try to stay off Google and just support my family in the best way.

    Many thanks,
