  • Hello Tess and thank you for posting on Cancer Chat,

I am sorry you are going through these investigations, I can appreciate the concern you have about them.

I am afraid I do not know what the term 'active' means in relation to your breast biopsy result, I am a nurse and not a pathologist but it could be a term used to describe your cells without using medical terminology. Without knowing the full picture I am sorry but I can't make sense of it.

However, I can say that it is not unusual to need to have a second biopsy done, this is to get more information and it still does not mean you necessarily have cancer.

If you don't mind me saying try to not focus on what was said.  The 2nd biopsy result will be more valuable. I hope you have some support at this time.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
