Found lump at 6 weeks post partum…

Hi everyone,

Posting as looking for women who may have had a similar scenario. I gave birth to my daughter in December and at six weeks post partum found a hard lump in the lower part of my left breast. I never breast fed but my milk did come in and I leaked for the best part of two weeks on and off. I went to my GP who said they felt it would probably be a clogged milk duct but everything I find online says that these would be painful and mine isn't. I've been waiting over 2 weeks for my appointment at the breast clinic with another 6 days to get through until my appointment and I am absolutely terrified it's going to be bad news. Are there any similar situations with positive outcomes out there? :(

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

Firstly congratulations on the birth of your baby and I hope waiting for an appointment isn't spoiling these precious days with your daughter.

As I am sure you are aware the breasts go through a series of changes during pregnancy and after the birth and many of these will be normal, including blocked milk ducts. You can read about these here.

It is always a worry for someone to find a breast lump but the majority of the time in younger women these will be harmless and caused by breast cysts or a build up of fatty tissue called fibroadenomas here.

Try not to worry you have done the right thing getting this checked out and hopefully you will get some peace of mind once you go to the breast clinic.

Hang in there for now and try not to let your mind run away with you for now.

    Take care

    Naomi
