Armpit lump

I have a small peasize lump in my armpit for about two months now. I feels hard and moveable I can grip it as it seems under the skin. Should I have this investigated.

  • Hello Fleetwood and thanks for your post

I’m sorry you are worried about an armpit lump .

I'm afraid we are unable to diagnose or tell anyone if anything is the matter. Only a doctor can make a medical assessment so we would always encourage people to make an appointment to see their GP.

A lump can be caused by various reasons, such as a local skin infection, blocked hair follicle, or a blocked or inflamed lymph gland (lymph node). Sometimes a lymph node comes up in response to a recent bacterial or viral infection elsewhere in the body even when a person feels well. They tend to go down or disappear after several weeks.

I hope you know more about your situation soon.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Hi there

I have the same as you but noticed it this morning as my armpit felt sore, it is even more sore now as I have been squeezing and poking it all day, mine is under the skin and not noticeable on the outside. Going to call my GP Monday, always best to get it checked out xxx

  • Hi and thanks for posting

Hopefully you will have spoken to the GP now and got some further advice.

Do try and not squeeze the area as it can make it more painful and cause some  inflammation. There's lots of reasons for lumps under the skin, including fatty lumps and blocked hair follicles, as well as the ones mentioned by Nurse Celene in the previous post, so try and not worry too much about this if you can.

I hope you are able to get it checked out

    All the best

    Wanda
