Cervical ectropion- ‘vs’ Cervical cancer

Hi...

Today I had my regular smear test, and the nurse that carried out the test said she could see something slightly abnormal on my cervix.. and explained that it could be a cervical ectropion but couldn't confirm so I have to see a GP on Friday...

I have ofcourse googled and gotten myself into an absolute frenzy about whether it is cervical cancer. She had such a concerned look on her face and I can't stop thinking about it.

I have a 9 month old Son and I honestly can't bare the thought of something being 'wrong' has anybody else been diagnosed with this?

I now have quite heavy periods but put that down to having had a baby in April... I'm sick with worry and very teary over all of this as you can imagine.

Any advice or stories, no matter the outcome would be hugely appreciated xx

  • Hello and thanks for posting on the forum,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. It is never easy being told that something does not look quite right but try if you can not to think the worst.

As the nurse said it may well be a cervical ectropion which are very common. Have a read about this on Jo's Trust website here

It is supportive hearing from other members of the forum but do remember that everyone's situation is slightly different so it is difficult to try and compare one person with another.

Google is also not a good way to try and diagnose yourself and usually you end up unnecessarily scaring yourself.

Try if you can to hold your nerve until Friday when you see the doctor and you know more.

    Take Care,

    Catherine
