Bowel movement problems post prostate cancer

Hi guys, i have'nt posted on here for a while so i hope yous are all well and looking after yourselves.

I had my 20 sessions of radiotherapy in Oct 2020 for stage 3a prostate cancer and it seemed that it was a success, at the time of treatment i did encounter some bowel and rectum problems which in time dissapeared, however ive had similar problems for the last 4 weeks , which initially i thought might have been salmonella due to undercooked eggs, but 4 weeks seems a bit long for that. I have been in touch with my gp and she sent a stool sample away for testing which came back negative. I was just wondering if anyone here had experienced anything similar, thank you in advance x

  • Hi and thanks for posting

I'm sorry you've been having some problems and hope things settle down soon for you.

There can be a number of explanations for your symptoms, but as they have lasted for some time, you can either discuss them with your hospital specialist nurse or doctor, or go back to the GP. They may have just tested for infection and not for blood to see if there was anything in the bowel area that may have warranted further tests like a colonoscopy , looking at your bowel.

Sometimes, some people may get long term effects from the radiotherapy treatment, but this would really need to be discussed further with your consultant.

Do give us a ring if you would like to go over any of this with one of us here on the helpline - Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best

    Wanda
