I had a NHS ultrasound scan on Monday. It was an urgent referral, but the inital appointment clashed with another scan, so I ended up waiting about 5 weeks. The ultrasound was meant to be for 2 areas of the upper right quadrant where I am experiencing pain. They scanned that area, then did my back, then my left side, then lower abdomen and bladder. When she finished, she got someone else to come and take a look. They repeated the same scan. I could hear lots of still images being taken and in total, the scan lasted 35 minutes. They said the results would be with my GP in 1-2 weeks and to make an appointment to speak with my GP for the results at some point after that.
Yesterday (Tuesday) my husband got a text asking us to make an appointment to see a GP. It didn't indicate who it was for and my husband has been waiting months for a follow up, so we assumed it was for him. I rang the surgery this morning (Wednesday) and they said it's for me. My ultrasound results from Monday were back yesterday and my GP wants to speak with me. I could have had an appointment today, but I have a lot of chronic illnesses and always see the same GP. She knows my history well, so I said I wanted to see her. The next available appointment with her is Tuesday next week (6 days time).
I'm not sure whether I should be concerned, both by the duration and thoroughness of the scan and volume of still images taken, and also by the speed of the results. I've never had any results (even private) back within 24 hours. Could this indicate that they found something or is this standard practice?
