Post menopausal bleeding

Hi,

I've been scouring the internet but can't find anything which directly compares to what I've been experiencing so wondered if anyone out there had any ideas or advice for me.

I was referred to gynaecologist in September last year with post menopausal bleeding (brown spotting on and off)I'm 54 and  I'm taking HRT (Kliovance).
Had hysteroscopy and biopsy under local anaesthetic which was normal apart from a polyp which needed removal under general anaesthetic. Had this done on 17December. Had bleeding as expected for about 5 days after then it stopped and was fine for ten days and then bleeding started which was heavier than the previous spotting - more like a normal period. That lasted five days and stopped completely until a fortnight later, it started again with a vengeance! Really heavy, needing two night time pads together for past two days. I'm getting fed up with this now- I have a follow up appointment with gynaecologist in a couple of days but just wondered if anyone had thoughts about what the cause of this bleeding might be? Could it be a complication of the hysteroscopy/polyp removal?

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about the bleeding you have and the investigations you need to have.

It is quite normal to bleed and have some discomfort after having a hysteroscopy and having a polyp removed for a few days. However, I cannot be sure that it is still okay if you have started to bleed again especially if it is heavy.  I realise that you have a follow up appointment with the gynaecologist in two days so it might be okay to wait until then to be seen and checked out. However, if you are passing large amounts of blood, particularly if there are clots in it and you are worried get advice from the NHS by calling NHS 111

I hope you will be okay.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Thank you for your reply, yes I am worried but I think I may as well wait until I see the Gynaecologist on Wednesday. I think the bleeding has begun to ease up a little now in any case.

    Thanks again
