Large stomach after Bilateral Mastectomy

Hi,

I've just had a Bilateral Mastectomy after being diagnosed with a Grade 2 Breast cancer.

I've had my drains out and whats worrying me is my huge stomache.  The Nurses said its normal and I wouldn't have noticed it when I had my breasts. I know that that is just not true.  Has anyone else had this problem and how do you deal with it.

Its really getting me down.  This is my 4th attack of cancer.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am so sorry that you have recently had a bilateral mastectomy. I can understand that when you have had '4 attacks' of cancer this may make you more worried about your own situation.

It is difficult for me without being involved in your care to be able to comment on the size of your stomach and I am sorry if this is something that is giving you so much concern.

You have posted in ask the nurses but if you post in another section then you may find that you get more replies.

Try and wait to see when you are a bit more mobile whether you still feel that this is the case.

The charity Breast Cancer Now have a service called 'Someone like Me'. They try and put you in touch with women who have had similar treatments. Have a look here

I am sure that when you have a follow up appointment after your surgery you can mention your concerns with the surgeon treating you. Hopefully they will be able to put your mind at rest.

You are more then welcome to chat any of this through with one of the nurses on the helpline. If you do want to call us we are here Monday to Friday 9-5 Freephone 0808 800 4040

    All the Best,

    Catherine
