FIT test result was 65

Hi there, hope I can get some advice, I'm a bit concerned as everything has happened within a few weeks, I'm 55 years of age. My fit test was raised at 65 and I've been asked to go in for a colonoscopy a week today.  I read that a result over 20 was a concern?
I have had ongoing bowel issues for many years, had a few procedures, piles removed and told I had a sluggish bowel.
I have recently been diagnosed with Heds, (hypermobile ehlers danlos) and also Sjogrens Syndrome.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I feel very lost and not sure what it all means.

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I'm sorry you have these health concerns, but until you have the colonoscopy it is not going to be clear what is going on for you. The FIT test picks up levels of blood in the poo sample, and this can be caused by polyps, irritable bowel, colitis as well as cancer, so it isn't necessarily the sign of something sinister.

The two conditions you have been recently been diagnosed with I have put links to here and here which may be useful.

One of them does list constipation as a side affect, so maybe having an effect on your bowel, but this will all be taken into consideration when they do the colonoscopy.

Take care and hopefully you will know more soon about how you have been feeling.

    Best wishes,

    Sarah.

  • Hi Sarah,

thankyou kindky for your reply it is much appreciated.  As you say, I’ll see what happens when I go in for the colonoscopy & take it from there.

    Many thanks
