Worried about my Lump

Hello Everyone.

i just wanted to post on here just for a little bit of advise and everyone else's experiences.

i found a lump about 2 weeks ago in my right breast. I went to see the doctor who said they are not to worried because of my age and no history of cancer in my family but wanted to refer me to the breast clinic for a second opinion.

I then got a phone call 4 days later for an appointment the following tuesday. Very quick i must say!

When i saw the specialist at the hosptial they said they where pretty sure it was fibroadenoma but wanted to send me for a Ultrasound Scan as my lump in 7cm!

I got a call 2 days later with an appointment in 5 days!

Today i had my ultrasound  which i was told was only a scan. as soon as the lady put the scan to my breast she demanded a Biopsy! This shocked me a little bit as i wasn't expecting one at all!

She said she was sure is wasn't cancer but why would she do a biopsy if she was sure?

I was then told i'd get a letter within 10 days for a face to face appointment and to make sure i take someone with me.

Please can someone help and if i should worry? I wasn't worried at all until they took a biopsy when i didn't know i was having one!

Thankyou in advance!

  • Hello and thanks for your post

Breast lumps in young women are very common and the majority turn out to be harmless but they need to be checked out just to be on the safe side.

Although the person doing the ultrasound scan was sure that your breast symptoms were not concerning, a needle biopsy is usually suggested if the scan show changes in the breast that they are not sure about. This does not mean that anything is particularly wrong but the biopsy is done just to be sure.

I know waiting when you are worried is stressful, but hopefully you'll know more soon. I hope everything turns out to be okay.

    Best wishes,

    Celene
