Gastroscopy with propofol sedation

Hi everyone,

 hope you are all well.

I have received a letter from the hospital today and my appointment for a gastroscopy with propofol sedation is on Friday 21st January at 7:30am.

I am feeling quite nervous about it mainly that I won't wake up from the sedation which I know sounds daft .

has anyone had this procedure done with propofol and if so how safe is it and is it safe for people who are overweight?

i look forward to seeing your replies

thank you

Lindsey

  • Hello Lindsey and thank you for getting back in touch with us.

I see that having Propofol has worried you for some time and now you have your appointment coming up you are asking again about having it.

The only thing I can tell you about taking this prescribed medication is that you should be reassured that it is a drug that will have gone through tests and trials to test its usefulness and safety. It would not be prescribed for you if t was not safe to do so.  Having Propofol will ensure that your endoscopy goes well. and you will not be distressed having it.

I am not sure what we or anyone else can say to reassure you to follow your doctor's advise and have it.

I hope your appointment goes well.

    Take care

    Caroline

  • Hi

I have been for my gastroscopy with propofol sedation this morning  and I managed to get it done this time I just went to sleep and next thing I knew I was waking up on the ward.

now I am just resting at home and keep nodding off and have a bit of a sore throat

feeling glad I got it done just wait three weeks for results.
