Help & Advice needed for itchy skin

Hi everyone,  I care for my mum who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Her primary cancer is in the liver. Her skin is getting very very itchy and keeps her up most nights. She can't take antihistamine due to the painkillers she is on. We have tried several creams prescribed and shop bought. Does anyone know of anything else I can try to make her more comfortable.
Thankyou in advance.

  • Hello and thank you for posting,

I'm so sorry to hear about your mums diagnosis of terminal liver cancer, and her struggle with that particular symptom. Itching is very common when there is a problem with the liver, I've placed here a link from our website which maybe helpful.

Coping with cancer is very stressful for everyone as it affects every aspect of life, and cancer that is terminal can feel hard to manage. I wonder whether your mum has been referred to a palliative care or Macmillan team. They are experts in symptoms and emotional support and maybe useful if your mums symptoms have become trickier to manage. It might be worth talking to your mums GP or hospital team about a referral. I've posted here a link about coping with cancer which may be useful.

Take care, and I hope things become easier soon. If you feel you want to talk anything through the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040, 9 till 5, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.

  • Hi Sarah,

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully the GP has referred my mum to the Martlets , so I will contact them tomorrow as it's been a while and I'm yet to hear anything from anyone.
