Painful lump found

I have never posted anything on here before but I recently found a painful lump below my armpit but above my right breast. I am so anxious as I am thinking the worse. I was recently diagnosed with ms so my anxiety is through the roof anyway. I have a doctors appointment to check things, no idea what it could be. I want to say it's at least a centimetre long but I can't be too sure. I can't stop worrying! I keep getting pain in my back, arm and sometimes my neck. I've probably read too much on Google trying to figure out what's wrong.

any advice would really help. I'm just so lost

  • Hello Mumofbeautifulboys and thanks for posting,

A lot of people worry about cancer when they find a lump, but it isn't the only possible explanation and most lumps occur for other reasons. Not knowing if there is anything serious the matter is inevitably worrying, but try not to think the worst or let worry run away with you.

Our advise in situations like this is not to go online and look for answers as it seldom helps and can keep any worry front of mind, if you can, distraction is usually a better way of coping.  Seeing the doctor is the right thing to do, hopefully they will be able to reassure you, but for now try and hold your nerve and take things one step at a time.

If you want to talk anything over please give us a ring on Freephone 0808 800 4040, we are around weekdays 9-5.

    Wishing you the best,

    Julia

  • Hi Julia,

thank you for replying. I've seen the doctor and I'm being sent for a scan. She said it's not cancer, not sure how they can say without investigating. Should have an appointment in a couple of weeks so now I wait. Doesn't help my anxiety but trying to stay positive
