Chest pain 18 months after lung surgery

I had VATs  lung surgery in June 2020, fortunately it was early stage so I did not havde to go through chemotherapy afterwards.  It's now around 18 months post surgery and I still have a very tight chest and become quite breathless even walking at a moderate pace.  Strangely, I get quite a bit of pain in the left breast, yet my surgery was on the right lung.  Is the tightness usual at this stage? and what about the pain around the left breast.?  I have had both PET and CT scans, neither have shown any concern.  I just wonder will I ever be able to walk at a normal pace again and will the tightness go away after a while, it feels like the centre and right side of my chest is held in a vice.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I’m sorry you are still experiencing pain and breathlessness after having lung surgery 18 months ago.  This must be a difficult time for you.

You ask if you will ever be able to walk at a normal pace again and will the tightness in your chest go away after a while. It is really only your hospital team who can answer this as they are involved in your clinical care. They are also seeing patients on a regular basis who have undergone similar surgery to you so should be able to advise you further.

You can also talk with your lung cancer nurse about this. Hopefully you have been given the contact details of someone, if so please leave a message on their phone and they will get back to you.

I hope you know more about your situation soon.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
