So worried

Hello

So sorry I feel terrible posting here when nothing is confirmed yet. Basically I've been getting pain between my shoulder blades and higher abdomen almost between my breasts. I managed to get a appointment with the nurse today, all obs were normal although heart rate was 127bpm,she felt my stomach and back and said the pain could be liver, gallbladder, pancreas as its in that area. She took bloods whilst I was there but then said she would refer me for an urgent ultrasound within 2 weeks. I understand they usually can suspect cancer if they refer under the 2 week pathway so now I'm so worried that she thinks I have some sort of cancer (she never mentioned at all this is what she thought) but I'm so worried

I had the same pains just before Christmas and took myself to A&E as the pain was bad, I had chest xray, ecg and bloods which was all normal except 1 blood came back slightly raised but can't remember what for, hospital said possible strain to the chest. It then cleared up over Christmas but came back again 3 days ago although now the pain has gone again. Have no other symptoms.

Has anyone every been urgently referred for a scan where the doctor did NOT suspect cancer? if so can I ask why else they would urgently refer me if they didn't think it was cancer? So sorry but I'm so worried now. I'm 41, do not smoke, rarely drink and have 4 children. My husband said there could be lots of reason aside from cancer why they did the urgent referral but I still can't help but worry

  • Try not to worry to much, easier said than done I know, but everything is out of you control at the moment. Do something to distract yourself, do you have a hobby or a favourite tv program you could watch? Best advice I can give is you only worry when you have reason to worry about I know waiting for results and appointments can be difficult. Sending you hugs and I.m here if you want to chat Donna xx

  • Hello and thanks for your post

Many people get very anxious when they have been referred urgently for tests and their thoughts do turn to cancer. I think it is really hard not to worry, but a lot of the time urgent referrals don't turn out to have anything to do with cancer, the doctors just want to rule it out.

I'm afraid no one on here can tell you what might be the matter. Easier said than done but try not to over think the situation for now and try not to anticipate what might be the matter. I'm afraid until you have your symptoms investigated and the results are back no one can tell you anymore for now. Hopefully nothing too serious is wrong.

I hope you know more about your situation soon.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Thank you for the reply.

I've since had some blood results back. My FBC and another blood test (can't remember what it was called) Both are normal but the LFT was abnormal   I had a text saying my gp has arranged a routine phone call appointment for 3 weeks time so I'm hoping this means it's not going to mean a serious problem. No mention of the scan though. Roughly about 12 years ago I was diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease so maybe its that again. Just don't know what to think right now as I don't understand all the readings within the blood test results.
