I am very sorry to learn about this intense pain - how horrible for you. I can understand you looking for an explanation but I am at a loss myself as to why this has happened just now. I don't think the nurse meant to embarrass you by her comments, she might just have been flummoxed too, some women do find smears very painful and there isn't always an obvious reason why. 

I am not sure how long it is since your hysterectomy and if some nerve endings could still be raw and account for the pain, but this is only guesswork.  It is good to know that everything looks ok and that the nurse couldn't see a reason for the pain. If your hysterectomy was recent and you have a follow appointment ahead of you, you could ask the gynaecologist for their thoughts.

Something like this can be very unsettling and even troubling. I hope it doesn't prey on your mind too much.

Hi and thanks, the hysterectomy was a year and a half ago,  so does make sense, I am 47.
