Treatment after zoladex

Hi

My Dad has just had his last zoladex injection after 3 years and due an appointment with his consultant. He is really anxious about not having any form of treatment going forward... do they have other treatments they give you after zoladex if you have to stop zoladex after 3 years?

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear that your dad is having cancer treatment. However, I am sorry to say that without knowing more about his situation and being part of his care team it is not possible for me or anyone else to know if he needs further treatment. However I hope the following information helps.

Because your dad is being treated with zoladex it makes me think that he has prostate cancer.  Zoladex is a type of hormonal treatment that stops the supply of testosterone that causes the cancer to develop.  There are a few different types of hormonal treatment so it is sometimes possible that when one treatment stops being effective that another type of hormonal treatment is needed. Or it may be appropriate to give other treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy. We have information on our website about prostate cancer treatment, if he has this then it might be helpful for you to look at it here

Hopefully at his next appointment with his consultant your dad will know more about his situation and if other treatment is needed.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
