side effects

i have just met two consultants to discuss treat for pc, after they told me that my PET showed the cancer had not spread beyond the prostrate.  I had already had a biopsy after the MRI scan. They told me my Glesson score was 4+3 = 7 .

They wanted me to make a decesion whether i wanted to go for radio therapy or surgery... I fet i was being rushed.

Only symptomsds ive had from last 3 years is frequent urination , around 4 or 5 times during the day and twice at night. No pain, no problem with peeing etc..

Any thots from anyone...  i am concerned about the severe side effects ... thanks

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis and appreciate decisions about treatment can be difficult to make.

Hopefully some other patients who have been through similar to you will jump on here and share their stories with you and whilst these may be helpful at the end of the day the choice of treatment is yours to decide.

As there are very similar outcomes for both surgery and radiotherapy in prostate cancer this is why there is a choice. Each option has possible side effects i'm afraid and therefore it is important to gather as much information as possible to help guide you as what may be best for you.

We have sections of information about prostate cancer and it's treatments and side effects here that you may wish to read if you haven't already.

Prostate cancer UK also have information here.

If you have any more specific questions you may wish to talk it through with your specialist nurse if you have one or leave a message for your consultant and hopefully they will get back to you.

Do get back if you have more questions or if you would prefer to talk things through over the phone then give us a call on 0808 800 4040, Mon-Fri 9-5.

    All the best

    Naomi
