Cervical screening question

Hi, I am due my first cervical smear test tomorrow morning and I'm concerned I've only now just read that pressaries, creams, lubricants etc shouldn't be used for at least a couple of days prior to the test. However, I only just used a moisturising pessary about a couple of hours ago (I thought this would help make the test less uncomfortable because I suffer with vaginal dryness!). I'm worried now this is going to interfere with the test/the results. Should I call my GP tomorrow to postpone?

  • Hello NorthLeigh20201 and thanks for posting,

As you have noticed, the NHS cervcial screening leaflet to help you decide about screening says not to use any vaginal medications, lubricants or creams in the 2 days before you have your test because they can affect the results. So given this, I think it would be a good idea to postpone your appointment and remake it for another time, but you can try and talk to the practice nurse about it first. These things can't be helped,

    Best wishes,

    Julia
