  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. It is never easy waiting to find out what it will all mean.

Each breast cancer patient is treated so individually so no two cases are exactly the same. Without being involved in your care it is difficult for me to say whether I think that you will be offered chemotherapy and radiotherapy or perhaps just radiotherapy.

Do give your breast care nurse a ring to see if she has more information. They will have been present at the formal MDT(Multidisciplinary team) meeting where your case will have been discussed with all the relevant doctors.

I can understand whilst you are waiting it is very easy for your mind to run away from you. Do remember that the cancer has been removed from your breast with clear margins around your breast. It sounds like you had a lymph node removed and the doctors need to check the other lymph nodes before they can decide on your next steps.

We have some useful  information on how  treatment decisions are made which you can read about here

Some patients find it helpful to connect with other women in a similar position. Breast Cancer Now have a service called 'Some One Like me' where they can put you in touch with women facing similar situations. Have a look at the details here

You have also posted in 'Ask the Nurses' if you post on a different section on the forum you may get more responses from other women.

Try and keep yourself busy if you can whilst you are waiting to take your mind off it all. Do also discuss your concerns with your breast care nurse so hopefully she can try and reassure you.

You are more then welcome to ring the helpline nurses on Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take Care,

    Catherine
