Breast clinic referral

I have had breast pain on and off for a few months now, which I initially thought was hormonal related due to having the coil. I went to gp over a month  ago and was examined, the Gp said my breast tissues felt inflamed and sent me away advising I take evening primrose and ibuprofen for a few weeks. Anyway, I mentioned it again a week later to another Gp in my daughters appointment and she advised me to make another appointment in a weeks time, which I did and she thought my breast felt lumpy and referred me on the 2 weeks pathway.

Unfortuntly, I got covid before the appointment last week and couldn't attend, new appointment has been arranged this Thursday.  Over Christmas I have experienced burning sensation in the breast and nipple, areas of tenderness and this morning I can start to see slit in the centre in my nipple. I'm so so scared ! After reading about inflammed breast cancers and pagets disease, I'm expecting the worse next week. I am a worrier but this feels different and something to be worried about.

I am 38 with a 4year old and 2 teenagers. No family history of cancer but never experienced ongoing breast discomfort like this ️

  • Hello Kimmy123 and thanks for posting,

Waiting for appointments is a horrible time as it is almost impossible not to worry, but try and take things one step at a time for now and resist anticipating what might be the matter.

The internet tends to fuel health worries and seldom provides any answers so we generally suggest avoiding it and doing your best to distract yourself and keep your mind on other things - I know this is a tall order.

I hope that time doesn't go too slowly between now and Thursday.  If you haven't already seen it, the link below is to another Charity's website Breast Cancer Now, and explains what to expect at breast clinic appointment.
