Can someone please advise on their interpretation of the following on my radiology report.
Multiple ill-defined bilobar liver lesions of varying size,
highly suspicious for a metastasis.
Until I have a biopsy I am totally in the dark.
Thanks

Metastasis is when cancer cells have broken away from the primary tumour, entered the blood stream and seeded elsewhere in the body. So using your post as an example, it is now in the liver. Or at least it's suspected.
Yes I understand that . It's more the comment highly suspicious that alarms me.
To me this indicated they are 80% think I have it and it is not benign, I know I will only find out the truth when they take the biopsy
Hello Meeshsalts and thanks for posting,
I am sorry to learn that you are waiting for more tests to clarify what is going on.
I'm afraid I can't quantify what is meant by 'highly suspicious', but as I think you know, there is the possibility that these ill-defined lesions (abnormal tissues) could be secondary cancers (metastases) that have spread to the liver from a primary cancer somewhere else.
As you say only, unfortunately for the moment there is no way to shed any more light on this. I can appreciate that not knowing is a stressful situation to find yourself in.
I hope your doctors are able to tell you more soon.
If you want to talk anything over please do give us a call on Freephone 0808 800 4040, we are here Monday to Friday (not BHs) from 9-5.
Wishing you the best,
Julia
What makes it worse is I have been referred to the cup team as they cannot see the primary and I have no history of cancer, this is why the waiting is the worst especially one being told about this on the 29 Dec.
This is all new to me. I know a lot of the time it is benign legions that's why I was asking about highly suspicious as this has put doubt in my head and if it is cup the diagnosis is not. Oh well I will just have to wait for the biopsy appointment to ahead more light
Hello Meeshsalts,
Sorry that you find yourself in such a horrible position, but pleased to hear that you have all the big guns now on your side, and that this issue has been discovered and bought out into the light of day, even if you will have to wait a little longer for the full preview,The opposite of this would have been a report that the growths were not very significant, and under the current conditions any action could have taken longer to arrive, with you left dangling with a nagging doubt of what-if..In this sense your Radiologist has done you a very big service with their choice of words
My lesions were described in almost identical terms, thankfully, because it meant they were able to move quick enough to ensure that surgical removal was still an option,in my case a few more months would have rendered that option out and l would not have been cured
My experience showed me the benefit of always looking at the plus sides of the medical journey you embark upon, despite the obstacles along the way, they are always there and you use them to find your way through,
l hope your wait is not too long and the results are positive,
take care,
David
Hi David.
Thanks for the reply. The cup/MDT team contacted me today and advised me that the biopsy is scheduled for Friday, just have to wait for radiology to contact me now.
So hopefully I will know the full diagnosis next week as I know it has been prioritised as urgent.
Jennifer
Hello Jennifer,
hope it goes well and l will keep an eye out for future posts,
go softly,
David
Hi Meeshsalts
Just to say I am in the same position as yourself except that I have been diagnosed with metastic cancer of the peritoneal with unknown primary as I have not had a previous cancer that i knew about!
This was at the start of the week and i am waiting for further tests. But i know how you feel with not knowing what the exact diagnosis is
Keep strong hope your biopsy went ok and the results will be back soon
Hello there Rosiesuecat64

This must be an unsettling time for you but try not to over think things too much until you have more information about what may be going on and what treatment is needed.
