No period after trachelectomy

Hello

I had a radical Trachelectomy with centinal node removal 6 weeks ago. I have not had a period since. Yesterday and today I have been in excruciating pain. Still no bleeding. Its a Saturday so no GP, 111 is overwhelmed. I have codeine which I was sent home with post surgery.

Should I just keep up the strong painkillers or is something wrong?

I'm concerned if the opening has sealed and I cannot get rid of the build up that it will cause infection etc?

  • Hello Dodge1990 and a very happy new year 2022 to you,

I thought I would respond as our nurses are not around over the weekend and their service is also closed on Monday the 3rd. They will get back to you in a few days when they are back online but it sounds like you may need to talk to someone before and check with a medical expert whether you just need to keep taking painkillers or if you need to be seen by someone. I am so sorry to hear you have been in excruciating pain since yesterday and it's bad luck it's happening over the weekend and festive period at a time when services are easily overwhelmed. Keep trying to ring 111 over the weekend as I think it would be a good idea to talk to someone about this. Have you been given a number to ring post surgery in case you experienced any pain or complications? Perhaps you could try and get in touch with the hospital where you had your procedure and ask to talk to someone there. Explain that you had surgery done there, and that you are worried something is wrong and have not be able to get through to a GP or 111 and are concerned about the risk of infection.

I really hope you manage to talk to someone about this soon. If you feel you need urgent medical attention, there is also the option of ringing 999. Fingers crossed you feel better soon and they get this pain under control.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Dodge1990 and thanks for posting,

I am sorry not to have been able to get back to you sooner, but hope that since you posted you have been able to get some medical advice about what is causing this pain and are feeling more comfortable.

I expect you know that it is best to get any new pain that is getting worse after surgery properly assessed - I appreciate that the timing on a Bank Holiday was the issue for you. Unfortunately we can't make an assessment. I think some some input from the gynaecology team who undertook your trachelectomy would probably be ideal, as Lucie says, hopefully you were given a contact point at the hospital and have managed to get hold of someone.

I do hope things are better for you now.

If you ever want to call us to talk anything over please do, our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here weekdays (not BHs) 9-5.

    Wishing you the best,

    Julia
