Vaginal bleeding

Hi there,

I'm looking to see if anyone else has experienced this. I have a very fast paced and demanding job, I'm a deputy manager of a nursing unit. I also lost my mum in June 2021 in horrific circumstances and have found since then my period is a bit all over the place. I know I'm stressed 99% of the time at the moment; and that it might be having an impact on my cycle.
so for recent months my period hasn't been regular, it's never been bang on but always monthly until 6 months ago, some months it's 28 days between others it's 38 days. I took what I thought was my normal period at the beginning of December bled for two days and it stopped for five days ever since then I have had spotting, some days it's slightly heavier, initially the discharge smelled strongly but that seems to have gone. I'm over due on my smear test but do have it booked.

  • It is important to be seen. Let your GP know. I had this post menopausal, and was endometrial cancer. However it could be perimenopausal for you, and may not be so serious, but it is best you are seen. I did have a lot of extra bleeding prior to the menopause, and it was fibroids. It is not easy at the moment as getting to see someone is sometimes complicated, but hang in there and be persistent. All the very best, I do hope it will be dealt with easily for you, and I hope your calls are met with kindness and compassion.

  • Hi there, thank you for your response.
I'm only 30 so hoping it is not anything to do with menopause as I have yet to start a family. I will call the gp after the holidays and hopefully get booked in asap. It is a worry. X

  • Hello Nurse399023,

Just wanted to let you know that due to tomorrow's bank holiday, our cancer nurses will be back on Tuesday and will reply to you as soon as they can.

    Kind regards,

  • All the best as you wait for an appointment and information. It is good you are 'on it'! Do something nice for yourself while you wait. X

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to hear that you are troubled by some recent symptoms.

Unfortunately, this forum isn't really meant for people with symptoms, as each person's situation is different, and therefore it isn't usually that helpful to compare.

There are many reasons for erratic periods, such as stress, dieting, hormone level changes, contraception changes, and various gynaecological conditions, such as fibroids. In someone young, this is common, and not likely to be anything serious.

The NHS website links here are helpful,

Do keep a diary of period dates, and speak with your GP who can assess you and advise you further.

    Wishing you the best,
