Breast Biopsy results

Is it normal for breast biopsy results to take longer,I just received appointment for results for 6 weeks time,so I am taking this as good news if there's no rush?,also if your GP referred you to breast clinic, why am I being seen for results by Consultant as outpatient, just looking for any info really, thanks

  • Hello and thanks for your post

Unfortunately because of the pandemic in many areas there is a NHS backlog causing delays in processing biopsy results. Although the majority of women referred to the breast clinic don’t have breast cancer, I don't think anyone can presume that because they have been given an appointment in six weeks time to get their results that they don’t have anything to worry about. Everything will hopefully be fine, but you need your breast care team to confirm this for you.

Although, you were referred initially by your GP to the breast clinic, it is quite routine for the breast specialist team ( consultant) to give you your results.

I hope everything turns out to be okay.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
