Suspicious mole had for about 8 to 10 months

Hi everyone

I'm just alittle worried and Google doesn't help with that, so here goes, I've had a suspicious mole on the right side of my chest for quite some time now, about 2 to 3 months in I had it checked due to it changing colour repeatedly. The dermatologist that looked at it told me it doesn't look serious and is more likely to be a scar due to what I do for a living, even I said I've had scars and I  would know if I hurt myself at work. This suspicious mole keeps fading then turns darker and becomes raised then flattens alittle also an irregular shape, not painful or itchy tho.

What should I do, don't really want to waste the doctors time again, but I think it's been around 9 months or so with this

  • Hello Groundwork and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn that this mole is still playing on your mind after seeing a dermatologist.

Bear in mind that the dermatologist examined your mole with an expert eye and may have used a hand held dermatascope/dermascope to add to their clinical impression. So they aren't likely to have got it wrong, and usually if they aren't sure they would suggest a biopsy.

A fair few people get in touch with us after seeing a specialist because they haven't been reassured at their consultation and are still uneasy about whatever is going on. It is tricky to know what to do next in situations like this, but I think if something is going to prey on your mind and start to cause anxiety it is worth seeing the GP again. I don't know if they would agree to re-refer you to your local NHS dermatology services or of they did, how long you might have to wait for an appointment . You could also consider paying to have a private dermatology opinion, but this can be expensive so cost it out before deciding to go ahead.

I hope this helps a bit.

Give us a call if you want to talk anything over . We are here weekday (not bank holidays) from 9-5 and our  Freephone number is 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
