Im a 16 year old male having weird pains in my breast area.

Hello all,

Im currently experiencing a weird situation in my left breast area. My rib cage on the left handside is popping out a lot more and hurts when i touch it. It does hurt on both sides however the breast area on my left side seems fatter than my right. I know its rare too get breast cancer as a male but i just want too rule everything out. I get very bad anxiety about my health im not too sure why,i guess googles the answer too that though lol. I went last year for an Ultrasound on my testicles due too having problems down there. Nothing bad came back. Im just wondering if it would show any cancer on an ultrasound even though they just scanned my abdominal area and my testicular area. I dont know if as always im worrying too much and its nothing but i just want too rule anything out. My mum thinks im been silly with regards too speaking about me having cancer etc,she says im simply too young too develop it. I heard of another condition called "Gynecomastia" which many teenage boys can develop. It's usually rare for males too develop breast cancer so im hoping its just something like Gynecomastia. What does everyone recommend i should do, am i been silly? Im not even sure anymore. My ribs feel bruised,my back is sore i just want this pain too stop. Been a year now, i've had enough. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Happy new year and i hope you all stay healthy!

  • Hello there

I'm sorry to hear you are so worried about your health and are experiencing some symptoms that are bothering you.

Unfortunately this forum is unable to tell people what the matter is and our advice is always to get checked out by a GP if symptoms are ongoing or worrying.

As your mum has said any cancer at your age would be extremely rare and there is likely to be a far less serious cause.

Avoid googling as it always takes people to the worse case scenario, which for most people it won't be. Spending too much searching for answers online about symptoms really does make people worry even more that can also make the symptoms feel far worse than they actually may be.

Do talk to your mum about this and if needed arrange an appointment with a doctor so they can assess you and hopefully give you some peace of mind.

You may find it useful to take a look at Youngminds here if you haven't already heard of it.

    Take care

    Naomi
