  • Hello Flegtak,

l realise and recognise how traumatic this news is for both of you and how utterly helpless it leaves you.Having been through bowelcancer with spread to the liver l discovered my local Maggies centre, they are located in sites across the UK,just type in the name on your computer and all their details will come up.They helped myself immensely in so many ways and l cannot speak highly enough of them, they can really help take some of the pressure away from you.

l truly wish you both well, and urge you to take all the help available, wherever from, it can make it easier,

                                     Best wishes,

                                                          david

  • sorry to hear about your husband flegtak.  I was diagnosed with a 2cm tumour in January 2020, had two procedures a TACE and an ablation. it did manage to kill the cancer off. But then comes the complications, because my liver is badly damaged with cirrhosis,  Ayear on I had gone to a midlands hospital that specialises in transplants. so went for assessment. only afterwards to be told I would not be offered a liver because I was classed as being high risk. which I totally understand. if there is someone who is more needy then they have that insentive to carry on.

So by all means take what offer they give your husband, especailly if it gives him a few more years.

unfortunately for me, I have been told my liver is going to get worse were it will end up in liver failure.yes was told I have a certain time left. I'm petrified and often cry myself to sleep.

I cared for the wife at home when she got diagnosed in late may with aggressive cancer and died 6 weeks after she was diagnosed. part of me hopes there is something after life, so I will be with her again. I'm in the process of arranging my own funeral. as I want to take that burden away from my two kids who are 22 and 30 years of age.  I won't get to see  the next Christmas.

  • Hello Flegtak and thank you for posting. I am so very sorry to hear about your husband's cancer. It's so hard to see someone you love go through this.

I would encourage you to get support where you can, whether it's from trusted family or friends, or you could talk through your concerns and worries with his doctor. There are often teams, like Macmillan, put in place when someone is quite unwell, they can come to your house or telephone you and offer support to you and your husband as you go through this.

On our website we have some information on living with advanced liver cancer here which maybe helpful to read.

And this page is about how you can support him and take care of yourself too.

Others on this forum may come forward with their own experiences which may be a help to you, and if you want to talk further don't hesitate to give our helpline a call. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

Take care, and I hope you get the support you need.

    Sarah.
