Pain from breast biopsy

Hi I've had a biopsy on the 23.12.2021 and the first biopsy they've taken in radiology with the scan was ok. I've had no pain at all. But the second biopsy and  they've  taken several core and needle biopsies was excruciating,  I have screamed out in absolut agony, tears streaming down my face like a river. I bet the whole hospital heard me screaming. I've never in my life felt so much pain. My breast was on fire and in a vice at the same time. The doctor was really rough and pushy. The female doctor even bend the needle.

Has someone else experienced anything like that or am I the only one who had to indure this horrible pain.

I have to go back on the 4th January 22 to get my results.

  • I'm not a nurse but I had 2 biopsies last year. The first one was excruciating. The bruising covered my entire breast and was there for over a month. As the results were inconclusive, they sent me for a second biopsy. The doctor was shocked at the bruising on my breast still there after a month. It does happen... rare I think but it was awful. Sorry you're going through that on top of the worry of everything else, but it can happen. Hope you recover quickly and your results are positive xx

  • I'm sorry you had to have 2 off these horrible procedures. I hope your results waa positive. I will never ever give my permission for another one.

I dont think that either the anaesthetic worked or they haven't injected enough, cos the last core biopsy the doctor took was without any anaesthetic at all. She didn't even think to ask , if I can feel anything and if its still numb.

My bruising isnt to bad, since the day off the biopsy I had to take painkillers. Today was the first day that I could go without. Thank you for your kind words. Have a happy new year.

  • Hello Tia, I am so sorry you experienced this at your biopsy appointment, it sounds awful.

Others on the forum may come forward with their own experiences of their biopsies, but as you will know already it is a very individual thing. I hope you have painkillers now at home and are able to keep yourself distracted til the 4th January. Waiting for appointments and results is such a difficult time and distracting the mind is the only way to make time go quicker. This is easier said than done though I realise.

When you go back it might be good to explain how awful the second biopsy was, and if you feel you want to take it further each hospital has a PALS department where you can discuss this.

Do take care, and hopefully you will know more about what is going on soon.

    Sarah.

  • Thank you Sarah for your kind words and I will tell the doctor about it as it left me traumatised and still in pain. Since the biopsy I dont feel right in meself,  every morning I wake up with other pains. Which I can't explain but these other pains in different parts off my body are so prominent that I have to take painkillers.

You was talking about PALS , do you think it will be worth to get intouch with them?

Let's hope it's good news on the 4th.

I wish you a happy new year.

  • Hi Steff and thanks for getting back to us

I'm sorry to hear about the pain you are in and suggest you speak to your doctor so they can check you out. There could be a number of reasons for this and hopefully nothing too serious is the matter.

In regards to contacting PALS it is totally up to you.

I really hope you are feeling better soon and that the 4th goes well.

    Take care now

    Naomi
