Hello Catherine and thanks for your post,
I am sorry to hear about you situation and the very difficult time that you must be having.
Towards the end of someone's life breathing may become loud and noisy if mucous has built up in the airways. This is because the person isn't coughing or clearing their airways as they normally would do. Some people call this type of breathing the death rattle because it can happen in the last days or hours of life.
Marie Curie describes this clearly and also what you might expect towards the end. Have a look here
I do hope that you are also managing to get some support for yourself at this very difficult time.
We have some information about how you can help look after and support yourself whilst this is going on. Have a look here
If at any stage you would like to talk to one of the nurses on the helpline you are more then welcome to do so. We are here Monday to Friday but not on the Bank Holidays. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm.
Take Care,
Catherine
