I am sorry to hear that your husband is having treatment for tonsil cancer.

I am not sure what treatment your husband is having for his tonsil cancer. If he is having chemotherapy, this will make him more vulnerable for picking up infections as the chemotherapy affects white blood cells that fight infection.

He may well not be having another appointment until after Christmas so it will be difficult to get advice from the nurses and doctors treating him .We do have some information on our website about Covid and cancer treatment which you can see here

I think the general rule would be to avoid mixing with too many people whilst he is having treatment and ensure that anyone visiting you has done a lateral flow test. 

At the end of the day it is your husband's decision. The Omicron variant is a new type of Covid and even though he had Coronavirus in October this may not cover him for the new Omicron variant. We have more information about shielding here
