Nipple inversion?

Hi I've just turned 19 and I noticed in the shower the other day that my nipple goes slightly inward at the centre but still sticks out. I don't know if this is nipple inversion and if it's always been like that and I've just noticed it? Anyway I've been Googling it like mad which I know is a mistake and I'm just worried it could be something serious.

Are nipples inverted if they still stick out but go slightly in at the centre?
thank you

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry you are worried about a breast change. It is not uncommon for a nipple or nipples to temporarily retract in response to temperature, stimuli, weight loss/gain, and hormone fluctuations (such as during your monthly period cycle).

Breast cancer would be very rare in someone of your age. If the nipple remains inverted for most of the time, then do make an appointment to see your GP. They can do a breast examination and advise you further.

I hope this is of use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
