Worried

Hello

i am 38 and since September I have had stabbing pains in my right breast. Had them for 3 months on and off. I logged them last month and seemed to be when ovulating and on my period but it couldhave been a coincidence for that month. Went to see the doctor and he said I appear to have extra breast tissue in one breast and because I have pain and soreness (seem to be sore in both but more in the right) he would refer me. He said he will speak to another doctor to see if he can put my mind at rest but came back and said he has to refer me to a clinic. He did say it could be hormonal. I'm worried sick. I had a text to say I had been referred and will get an appt within 2 weeks. The thoughts going through my mind are horrendous. He did say because I mentioned pain/soreness it makes him think it's not bad. I don't no if I am being referred because of the extra breast tissue or the soreness! I have just had a period and no stabbing pain. Not had any pain for 3 weeks but my right breast does seem to be a little sore.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry you are experiencing breast pain from time to time. Breast pain can cause a lot of worry but it is actually very common in women of all ages.

There can be many causes of breast pain and you can read more about this by clicking here.

Breast changes are also common and I think your GP has referred you to the breast clinic just to be on the safe side.

Waiting when you are worried can be very stressful but the majority of people who are referred to the breast clinic are found not to have breast cancer. The organisation Breast Cancer Now has information on what to expect when you’ve been referred to a breast clinic and you can read this information at this link.

I hope you know more about your situation soon.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Hi. I have recently been thru a barrage of tests after initially going to the breast clinic with pain and two suspected areas were found. I was given the all clear as it is benign breast tissue. I was convinced it was going to be bad news after 6 weeks of tests etc. It isn't always bad news and they will be very thorough. I can't take away your worry but hope my positive outcome gives you some hope x

  • Bless you. Thank you. I had real stabbing pains in one breast every time I moved but I haven't had it for nearly 4 weeks now but I called the doctor and it was a worry when he said one breast has more tissue. He said he thinks it's hormonal and me saying when he was examining me that it felt sore that he said it reassured him it wasn't anything bad. But I guess in my eyes he still refered me so I'm worried sick. I had my breasts checked by a doctor in March as I thought I felt a lump but she said there's no lumps now. He said he couldn't feel any lumps either just extra breast tissue.
