Irregular bleeding, scared

Hello all I am worried sick and so so scared, I had my smear Feb this year it came bk I got hpv virus and to go bk for another smear in 12months if any changes to contact the doctor....well my periods have always been like clockwork..up until August and I were getting spotting so contacted Dr's to be refused a smear cuz I wasn't due....well come November I were 2weeks late ..despite being 45 I considered being pregnant ..hadn't tested then suddenly started bleeding so thought that was it...was a bit heavier but thought maybe due to being late...but since then ..on and off not stopped bleeding...sometimes it discharge with blood in it, sometimes pink sometimes brown close to black...I can go toilet and nothing showing on my pad then when wipe myself there's blood....and then other occasions I go toilet and it looks like I'm on my period (pad wise)  then I'll go toilet again after and there nothing there.....I have contacted Dr I got go see a gynaecologist at a cancer place due to waiting list being quicker.....but I am so so scared making me feel sick....today I've not had no blood ..up to yet anyway but I feel petrified...anyone been in similar situation at all or can offer any advice

    It can be scary waiting for an appointment as your mind tends to go into overdrive, but lots of people are seen in hospital for irregular bleeding . Although it can be a symptom for cancer, the majority of cases turn out to have other gynaecological explanations like fibroids or hormonal changes. You can read  a bit more about irregular bleeding here  

    You had a smear which didn't turn out to have any abnormal cells , (and these are not cancer even then) and the majority of us at one point will have HPV, with the immune system usually clearing it. There's more about HPV here  

    People may come back to you with their own experiences, but remember that those won't necessarily be yours. It's going to be a case of holding your nerve and waiting to be seen , which isn't easy. So try and keep busy over this time.
