Good evening I was referred by my doctor to my local breast clinic a week ago. I spoke with the clinic today and no appointment has been made. The nurse said it is taking around four weeks. Is this normal at the moment? Many thanks.

I was referred two weeks ago and heard nothing yet when I called on Tuesday they said that the scanner had been broken and caused a delay as all appointments were cancelled for 3 days, They promised that someone would call in the next few days so I'm going to call again tomorrow. Its appauling having to wait this long.
Last time l went in August it took 2 weeks but they have been hit by staff illness like the rest of the N H S. l hope your appointment goes well when you get one.
Take care and try to relax

Hello and thank you for posting.
At the moment due to the coronavirus pandemic, there may be longer to wait for urgent (2 week wait) appointments than usual. This seems to vary across the country and I am afraid I don't know what the average additional wait is at the moment. I've posted here some information on NHS waiting times targets but as you are aware, things aren't normal just now.
The majority of people who are sent to the breast clinic do not have anything sinister, lumps and changes can occur for other reasons. But it is still good to get all changes checked out properly. Here I've posted a link to what to expect when you do get to the appointment.
I hope this has been helpful to you. Waiting for appointments is often so tricky, and although its easier said than done trying to keep your mind distracted is the only way to help the time pass quicker.
Take care, and I hope that your appointment comes through soon so know more about your situation.
Sarah.
