Concerned positive FIT test and anemia

Hi all

I am a 43 yr old and about 3 months ago after suffering 3 UTI's I saw a urologist. I had bloods and various tests. He was concerned as my heamaglobin levels were very low.

Since then the GP repeated tests and still low. They said it's down to heavy periods.

for the last 10 weeks I have been really poorly with a terrible cough and high resting heart rate. (To the point I passed out)

GP wouldn't see me as I have a cough, so sent me to see a cardiologist... all ECG etc came back ok.

forward to last week... still coughing and very weak I demanded my GP see me in person. Finally a dr that was just helping the surgery for the day said he will see me.

He said we need to look at everything as a whole and was concerned. He ordered more bloods and a FIT test.

i got a call at 8.30pm from dr to say it's positive and need further investigations. I am due to fly to America to see my brother and new nieces ( after not being able to for 2 years)

Is it safe to fly? Trying to find a private dr today, to find out if I should still go away?

I am so scared of what is really going on, and actually a big hug from my brother is all I want right now

sorry I'm not very good at writing and babble a lot

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you are having and finding out you need to have more tests because of a raised FIT test must be a worry for you.

I understand the timing of this isn't great especially as you are due to travel soon but i'm afraid no one on here can tell you what you should do.

I'm not sure if you can find out when these tests may be arranged for as this may help guide your decision.

However if you do choose to go it is important you feel well enough to travel and also consider if you were to become unwell whilst away what would happen then as well.

I assume you have travel insurance arranged but still these things need to be thought through.

I'm pleased you are trying to get some advice from a doctor as they will be in the best position to advise you.

I hope you know more about your situation soon but do get back in touch if you need to.

    All the best

    Naomi
