Colposcopy this morning

Hi, I've just got home after my colposcopy, before it the Doctor said he's not worried about it, I have low grade HPV, afterwards he said he couldn't see anything sinister but has sent a biopsy. Should I be worried that he took the biopsy or would he just have been being thorough?

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

Try not to worry or over think this if you can. It is pretty routine for a biopsy to be taken at colposcopy just to make sure everything is okay and no treatment for abnormal cells is needed.

It is reassuring the doctor couldn't see anything concerning and they wouldn't say that type of thing if they were unsure, so it sounds like they were being thorough like you say.

Hopefully the results are back soon so you can put all this to the back of your mind but in the meantime keep yourself occupied with other things as this can help.

    Take care

  • Hi, thanks for the reply, yes I'm hoping this will be good news. I'm just wondering how long bleeding after might occur? I didn't have any for the first 2 days but the last 2 I've got small amounts of fresh blood.
    thanks.

  • Hi again,

You can get some bleeding or spotting for up to about 2 weeks afterwards, but this does vary a lot from person to person, so it might be for a bit longer or a bit less.

If you get concerned that it's still fresh blood, in a large quantity or not decreasing , or if there's any discharge, do get in touch with the GP for a check.

    Hope all goes well

    All the best

  • Hi, I've just had my results. CIN 1 mild changes, so screening in 12 Months which I'm taking as good news. But sad to hear just after opening results that Wales has now increased time in between screening to 5 years if no HPV.
