Results appointment

I had a biopsy last week and have telephoned breast clinic about any follow up appointment and was told that all biopsy cases are discussed on Friday afternoon in MDT meeting and I would need a results appointment but she said she didn't have my results . Can they not tell you anything over the phone and is having to wait for results appointment bad news. All this waiting is terrifying me.

any information would be appreciated

thanks

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

Unfortunately the non medical staff are unable to give results out over the phone, this does not mean you have bad news, it is just part of hospital policy.

As they have said your results are being discussed this afternoon at a breast multi-disciplinary team meeting, you will then be contacted to go in and receive them.

The waiting for any results, test or scans is always the trickiest part, and the only thing that can help is to try and keep yourself busy. It is much easier said than done, but it is the only way to help time pass quicker.

Take care, and hopefully you will get the information you need soon.

    Sarah.

  • Thank you for your reply, just had a telephone call and I have an appointment on Tuesday afternoon for the results. As you said , the lady who rang could not give any indication of results ( good or bad) as she is only admin staff and just arranges appointments.

Are all patients given a results appointment even if it is good news?

at least I have not got too long to wait ...although it will seem like an age .

    thank you

  • Hello Sportingbabe and thanks for the update,

I think a lot of people in this sort of situtaion are looking for any sort of clue as to what might be going on, but patients are often given appointments to get results, so I don't really think you can draw much in the way of conclusions about being given one for Tuesday.

Waiting is inevitably difficult, but unfortunately there is no way around it at the moment. As Sarah suggested do your best to distract yourself as much as is possible given the circumstances - you know what might work for you- try and come up with a plan for the next 3 days.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Julia
