Shadows on kidneys.

I went to A&E with really bad pain in my lower abdomen. I had urine and blood samples taken, it was not clear if there was an infection or not. They done a CT scan higher up and said they can see shadows on my kidneys. They gave me pain killers and sent me home with no clear explanation. Should I be worried and should this be followed up?

  • Hello S96s and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn that no one in A&E gave you an explanation before sending you home and can understand why this would bother you.

The A&E department should be getting in touch with your GP to let them know what the test results showed and depending on this, if anything needs to be done. So I think the best thing to do would be try and find out if your GP surgery has had a summary about you yet from A&E.

My understanding is that shadows can occur for a number of reasons for example cysts (fluid filled sacs), so try not to worry. But I think it is very reasonable to want to know what this is all about so do be sure to follow it up yourself with the GP.

I hope your GP can help.

    Wishing you the best,

    Julia
