Article Fully Moderated

Our friendly team of moderators are amazing and on duty 365 days a year and read every post to ensure the information given is always safe, legal and supportive, in keeping with our community guidelines
Please note we do not provide a 24 hour moderation service but all posts are read and moderated in a timely manner

Why we moderate

We aim to:

Stop any misleading information being posted.
Stop anyone misusing Cancer Chat or breaking the terms and conditions.

This means that sometimes we edit or remove messages, but only if we have a good reason to.
Cancer Chat is your space to talk about cancer and we want to protect your community.
You can find out more about the moderation team here: Meet the team

If you want to ask our moderators questions about using Cancer Chat or send us any feedback, please email us at cancerchat@cancer.org.uk

If you notice another member posting misleading information, misusing the site or breaking the terms and conditions in any other way, please contact a moderator by using the 'Flag to a moderator’ button at the bottom of the post in question or on the profile page of the member in question. You can also email the team directly.
You should expect a response within 1-3 days (it can be sooner). If you Flag something to a moderator, we will usually let you know what action we have taken.

The moderators aren't able to answer questions about cancer.

It’s important to note that Cancer Chat isn’t a crisis service.  If you are looking for crisis help or if you or someone you’re with is in immediate danger, call 999 or go to A&E.

Medical Emergencies (Immediate)

  • Call 999: For emergencies
  • NHS 111: Call 111 for urgent medical advice when it is not a 999 emergency

Cancer Treatment Emergencies

If you are currently undergoing cancer treatment and feel very unwell, call the 24-hour hotline number provided by your hospital or treatment team immediately. If you do not have this, call 111

If your query is about cancer and you are based in the UK, you can call our specialist cancer information nurses on freephone 0808 800 4040 (9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday) or send the nurses an email.

Please note: Cancer Chat is funded and run by the UK based charity Cancer Research UK. As a UK charity, our services are aimed primarily at a UK based audience. Unfortunately we don't have the resources to answer queries from outside the UK at this time.
