HPV and Low-grade dyskaryosis

Hi Guys

I have just received a letter confirming I have HPV and Low-grade dyskaryosis. I am going for a colposcopy. I was just wondering how the procedure was etc...

I am also worried sick, I have lower abdominal pain and I think a UTI, not diagnosed. I had excruciating pain a few weeks ago after sex, but I just had put that down to having the coil fitted a couple of months back.

But you google these things and it's terrifying, I know you shouldn't google but it's natural!!!

Any words of wisdom or advice would be much appreciated

  • Heya it didn't say anything about a grade just that I need a colposcopy as hpv is still there but no abnormal cells either so am just worried why it hasn't cleared when nothing has changed. x

  • Hi nvamps

If you have tested positive for HPV, it will be high risk HPV as this is what is tested for. High risk HPV can cause cell changes, which are not cancer, but the colposcopy will allow a closer look at your cervix and the cells to be checked for any abnormalities.

It is likely that your partner also has the virus as it is passed by skin to skin genital contact but there is no test for men. It’s your decision about telling him, but having the virus is extremely common, and is not usually a cause for concern in itself. x

  • Ahh I see lovely, you body might not be able fight the virus

they probably want you to go in to see if the HPV isn't affecting any cells in your cervix.
I wouldn't worry to much about that my lovely

I would recommend try building your immune system up buy changing your diet taking regular vitamins and daily exercises they better your immune system the quicker the virus will go,

but please don't be to stressed on yourself. You haven't got any warts or verrucas have you? That a cause of HPV. Xx

  • Hi chaps

It’s good advice to try to build up your immune system to try to suppress the virus.

However, warts and verruccas have no connection with any potential cervical cell changes. They are caused by low risk strains of HPV, whereas cervical cell changes are caused by high risk strains of HPV. There are more than 100 strains of HPV, so it’s not relevant to speak about warts and verrucas in connection with cervical cell changes. x

  • Hi.

oh yeah of course I know there loads of strains of HPV it's okay I did research has you do when your anxious about HPV and they mentions like warts on your hands genitals and face and verrucas are a cause of HPV I currently have a verrcua I can't get rid off I had it for ages. Doctors won't see me over that due to the pandemic so it just crossed my mind I am trying home remedies but I was paranoid and thought that HPV would have some connection with the high risk HPV but all this is new ain't it. I never ever heard of HPV xx

  • Hi chaps

The HPV virus causes verrucas, it’s not verruccas and warts that cause HPV, so you have maybe got your understanding of this the wrong way round. I just wanted to make sure the other poster was aware there’s no connection between having any kind of warts and possible cervical cell changes. You can have more than one strain of HPV in your body. x

  • thank you all I am trying not to stress  to much about it but not knowing is making my anxiety high but thank you for your advice x

  • Hi hun ,

    How are you?

I have my colposcopy yesterday and same as you the nurse explained how commom hpv is and that its not an actual std but you can only get from sexual contact etc she also said the changes are pre cancer not cancer and that as long as you always go wben asked you wont get cancer its the ones who dont go so thay re asured me.

She said the mild changes are there but shes not worried and to just go for a repeat smear in 12 mths and same as you i didnt feel any pain just a bit incomfortable was in and out in about 20 mins its mad how much we worry before hand isnt it so happh now its done tho your message before did help me alot so thank you x

  • Hey girl

    I'm so happy for you

I got my colposcopy on Friday I'm nerves myself

I been keeping positive my results on my smear were low grade and HPV detected

your comment has made me so much better I haven't slept in days worrying

i have been on top of my smears my first one came back all normal now this one 3 years later come back abnormal

glad your feeling a lot more reassured

    xxx

  • Hiya,

I'm glad things went well for you, I thought about you yesterday and wondered how it had gone. Yes she said to me its the ones who don't come for appointments I worry about. I'm waiting for my results letter but hopefully it will say just a check up in 12 months same as you. As long as we go to all appointments we should be ok they are so important. Im glad I could put your mind at ease a little as the thought of it was definitely worse than the actual procedure itself x
