ENT experiences please?

Hi, so I have today, finally, received my 2 week fast track referral appointment letter (for 6 weeks after I saw my GP- and letter even says 2 week fast track referral ) and it is for the ENT clinic and I am being seen due to a hard lump on the side of neck which has grown in size from around 1cm to at least 4cm. Can anybody tell me what will happen at this appointment from experience please?

Thank you

  • I think you're right, every hospital probably has its own reservations team and way of completing the bookings.

If you are concerned that your appointment should be sooner and not the 6 wks I would suggest calling your GP back as they made the initial referral and can follow up. My 2wk referral for ultrasound wasn't for 9 wks due to the backlog of appointments.

Once I had the ultrasound report though, the 2wk referral to consultant was a couple days and things moved more quickly.

  • To share my experience from first appointment

Basically they will feel around your neck and look at back of throat with small torch.

They will also have a look down your throat via a small thin tube with camera at the end of.
This is fed through nose  and will allow them to have a closer look and also take pictures etc if necessary.
It's all very painless and at most a slight discomfort but it didnt bother me one bit and was over in minutes.

Will then depend what they see and whether further investigation with lab tests etc but that's the procedure in the main and they will have that discussion with you after initial checks done.
    Hope all goes well

    regards

    Ian

  • Thank you for replying with your experience, I just wanted to try and get some experiences so I can sort of be prepared for what may happen at the appointment. I hope you are ok

  • Thank you Greece_E, I did phone GP surgery after two weeks as advised saying that I had not yet received an appointment, they called the referral team who told them that they had my referral but were waiting on ENT to release appointments to them and that there were delays, and that I would receive an appointment when they had one, so I'm guessing with the delays that the beginning of September is the soonest they could see me. Thanks again for replying
