Liver growths

Hi, I'm 25 years old went for a plelvic infrasound where they have found 6 growths on my liver one beinf 4cm I had bloods tested ect in august liver seemed to be fine doctors didn't seem worried it could be cancer but obviously a possibility but said it could be cysts as anyone else had similar and it just being cysts I'm worried sick awaiting for mri

  • I have found a swelling near my rib at my liver I went to doctor today he said not overly concerned (think that is a doctor saying) he done an examination on me he going to send me for an ultrasound for my own sanity as he knows how worried I am as my mother died last year of secondary liver cancer so don't know if he not overly concerned is because of how I feel about it as I also suffer from bad anxiety

  • I suffer with severe anxiety the most of this past two weeks I've spent googling everything and convinced I have cancer. It took me around 18 weeks to get my first ultrasound I see specialist tomorrow. Hope everything goes well for you x

  • Hello, just thought I would give you a update seen the specialist today and again he didn't seem concerned I was literally in the room about 5 mins he said he could have done it over the phone.. he asked me if I smoked, drank had kids etc. Also asked if I was oral contraceptive which I said yes for around ten years he thinks this could be the cause and could be non benign liver leisons. Again couldn't say 100% not cancer but said unlikely and said he would put through for a urgent mri. Not sure how long this takes he wasn't too sure. Told me to try relax and stay of google.

  • Thanks for the update, which is really great news! I certainly think it is good to be thorough and do the MRI, but you should take great confidence from the specialist's point of view. I wish our appointment had gone that way, but as I've said our specialist was very certain that it was cancer, which it was. I think that the specialists deal with this everyday and so get to know exactly what different things look like, and the confidence that these are benign lumps is a good thing for you. And stay away from google is great advice! I am sure you would have worried yourself silly on the liver cancer survival rates as we have. But its important to remember that it is a cancer that primarily affects older people, smokers, those with underlying liver disease etc, and so the stats are skewed by people with generally poor health and wellbeing. Keep calm and enjoy Christmas with your daughter!

  • Hello, thank you for your reply I hope your all doing okay and your wife is feeling okay was the specialist confident before having mri? He did tell me to try stay off google and relax which I still haven't I have now had a phone call mri is Saturday with contrast medium hoping I get no side affects from this. Would you know how long it takes to get results? Hopefully no bad news before Christmas he couldn't say 100% not cancer but said it's unlikely to be because of my age ect. But did mention could be due to long term use of oral contraceptive pill. Cant help but worry due to the right side back pain I get and I would have thought if benign I wouldn't have any symptoms. X

  • I can only speak for liver cancer but one of the funny things is that pain is actually a good indication that it's not cancer! One of the reasons for poor outcomes in terms of survival is because liver cancer has no symptoms until it becomes quite advanced. The doctors have often told us that we were lucky as the location of my wife's tumour meant that it had a gravitational pull which caused her pain. Our results were very quick, just a matter of days. But our specialist was also very certain from the outset that it was cancer. You have a lot of things going on your favour right now. And if if does turn out to be cancer, then there are treatments and that's where you mustn't let google consume you! My wife is still here and going strong 8 years almost to the day since her first liver surgery (18 December 2012). Keep positive that you can have the mri and get some good news before Christmas.
