Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • Just want to add to this thread as the more I read the more hopeful I feel, although I am still petrified.

I had my 2nd AZ jab about 7 weeks ago - I can honestly say it was done so quickly I can't even remember what side they did it on.

A week later I noticed a large lump (about 10mm I reckon) on the right-hand side of my neck - hard and not moveable. Of course, this happened on a weekend. But I saw the doc on Monday and she wasn't worried and said it would probably go down in a week or two. 6 weeks later it's still there, gone down a little but not much, still hard and non-moveable. Plus after digging around I have found two smaller ones along my collarbone - around 4 -5mm I think. Both moveable. I spoke to the doc and she said just due to my anxiety she would refer me for a non-urgent ultrasound to put my mind at rest. I've now gone private and have an ultrasound on Monday. She also did some blood tests and my white blood cell count was slightly low, so she said it points to a virus/infection of some kind and not to worry. It's worth noting, that I had COVID about 4 weeks before my second vaccine, which I believe can exacerbate any vaccine relate side effects.

I'm just worried because the lump in my neck is hard, and not moveable at all. Anyone else had this?

  • Hello

I have had a lymph node reaction both times and they always seem to feel bigger than they actually are, the scan backed that up. I was shocked at how big I thought they were against what they really were.

I also was digging around my neck and found another lump on my throat this time. The GP didn't think it was a lymph node so I thought enough is enough and paid to go private.

The scan was very thorough and the new lump I found was thyroid scar tissue, apparently when we grow and it changes location to be lower down it left a bit and that is what I can feel.

The private scan cost me £299 but it was worth it.

  • Hi,

i have done an ultra sound and the doc said he noticed something around my thyroid. But he didnt elaborate, can you please share with me what a thyroid scar tissue is ? Anything dangerous ?

this whole vaccine thing is just a nightmare, almost everyone I know developed something worrying.

  • Hello

For me, he said no further treatment and that was that. He said my thyroid function was perfect and it is nothing to worry about at all.

when did you have your ultrasound? My GP said he thought this bump was around my thyroid but the sonographer said it wasn't now and it was just part of the thyroid.

  • Just following up from my post earlier in the week. I've just had my scan and doc said everything looked normal and I had nothing to worry about. So I am relieved. No explanation as to why they were there but I'm guessing it is a reaction to COVID jab.

  • I had my Pfizer jab on Sunday past (15/8/21) and I have the exact same lump! On the same side I got the jab. It's almost spongy to touch and can feel a small lump like a pea. I have been a bit worried about it but someone in work had said this is a side effect from the vaccine. I hope so!

  • Hi - I had my 2nd Pfizer vaccine on 13.08.21 and also have the lump on my left collar bone (same side as jab). It seems to be getting bigger and bigger and is really sore. It can also be pushed around. I've consulted the GP who said she will look if it hasn't gone down by next week. Having read all these articles, it would see to be a vaccine side effect, but still worrying (especially if you google other causes). I have reported on the Yellow card system for now. I am hoping the GP will arrange an ultrasound if it  doesn't go down.

  • Hi Ro88,

Could i please ask how you go about finding the lymphadenopathy reports on the yellow card system? I've managed to create a report myself, but unsure how to search for existing reports.

Thanks so much in advance if you can help :)

  • Most of the post I’ve read here is the same as what happened to me. I had my 2nd dose of Pfizer covid vaccine last 5/8/21 and exactly a week after (12/8/21) I noticed a lump on near my collar bone, Same side of the arm where I had my vaccine. I immediately contacted my GP and on the same day she saw me for consultation. The lump was quite big and my gp was worried. She immediately referred me for urgent blood test the next day, xray and scan. Blood test results were okay. Xray was clear and I had my appointment with the consultant for ENT last 21/8/21 and the consultant the lump feels rubbery. I can only feel pain when she was trying to palpate/poke on the lump. Now I’m just waiting for my neck ultrasound. My appointment is on the 24/9/21. I want to try to ask them if they can move the ultrasound earlier as I noticed today it’s started paining me. I can’t move my hand properly, I can’t look down or look on the same direction as where the lump is. The pain im feeling is like having a stiff neck.
